Making Safer Spaces for Melanated Mindfulness
Making Safer Spaces for Melanated Mindfulness
Empirical research has proven that melanated people (especially masculine-identified) experience more trauma than whites but are far less likely to pursue resources to pursue and receive mental wellness support. Primary challenges include stigma, aversion to medication and a lack of cultural competence on the part of behavioral healthcare professionals. Many of the traumas people of color have experienced took place in childhood, which is defined as an adverse childhood experience. Research shows that the more ACEs a person has experienced, the higher the risk is for said person to also experience chronic disease as well as social-emotional issues. In fact, the highest causes of death for people of color nearly mirrors the adult manifestations of a high ACE score.
Virtual healing spaces are predominantly filled by, led by and designed for white people. While we are all spiritual beings, melanated folks are having concretely different lived experiences based on the impact(s) of our skin color and cultural aesthetic differences. We have more trauma, less knowledge and little to no community regarding neuroscience as well as somatic and parasympathetic activation healing practices to respond to our health-related physiological manifestations of stress and trauma. We need more information, access and integrative approaches (including choices and methodologies) to improve our individual and self care that are not predominantly white and cost-prohibitive.
People of color deserve safer and more courageous spaces and processes we can trust to start - and sustain - our healing journeys.
We specialize in the co-creation of safer melanated affinity spaces focused on healing journeys through learning and practice communities.
Eden's part in changing the world will be its community of pigmented people evolving into healthy, healed and whole teachers, elders and ancestors who transform generational trauma into village restoration.

There is a Zimbabwean Proverb that states, “Until the lion tells his side of the story, the tale of the hunt will always glorify the hunter.” What story is being told about you – and is it time to Recreate Your Narrative? As we change, transition, and evolve, so does our story.
This 7-week course will aid participants in reflecting on narratives as powerful tools to understand where we’ve been, where we are now and where we’re going. Dialogue and narration facilitation will support the mindful and meaningful (re)writing and (re)telling of participant stories.
